D Day +10

Doesn’t seem like 10 days since we left the UK but what a time it has been. Today will be our last day at Hamiltons and it has been a remarkable experience. It’s really hard to put into words and all I can really say is that if you are fortunate enough to get on a Safari then you will know exactly what I mean.

Last night was another late game drive. The evening drives don’t seem to be as full of animals as the early morning ones but you do get some different specie. One of the exciting things was spotting a wild dog hunting for spedbok. Boy can it move quickly.

We came across a bachelor group of male Kudu. their horns are magnificent and the use them to fight with but also to pull down high branches so they can get to the leaves. The horns on a fully grown male can be upto 1.8m long 😮

Now we need to talk about the elephant in the room (or rather the bush). Now as we know elephants are BIG animals, dark grey to black and quite frankly elephant shaped. So how on earth can  you drive within 10m of one and not see it. DUH!!!

I thought that we’d show you a little bit of the tribulations of living under canvas. As you can see we are really roughing it and it will be nice to get back to civilisation again. 🤣

Headed out on a game drive this morning with just Chris and I in the wagon as today seems to be a checkin / out day with new guest arriving. Our guide (Suit Boy don’t ask) is fabulous, he’s really knowledgable and has the ability to drive the car and still spot things that we completely fail to see.  Highlights of todays drive were a pair of young lions, a couple of Hyaena and a herd of Cape Buffalo. It’s surprising how the extraordinary becomes ordinary. never thought I would hear myself saying “its just another herd of elephants”

Tonight will be our last game drive as we’ve got to head back to Cape Town tomorrow morning. Lets see if Suit Boy can pull a last rabbit out of the hat and find a Rhino for us.
