D Day +74

Finally writing the blog on the day it happened. Off to Sedona today. Not a particularly long trip just 111miles.

The first part of the trip is just like the drive up to the Grand Canyon. A lot of flat Colorado Plateau, long straight roads and not a lot to see. However this all changes when we get past Flagstaff and we are back on roads more reminiscent of New Zealand, twisty up and down deep valleys. Lovely driving. We’re looking for a place to stop but manage to drive past a nice looking place. A mile or so down the road there is a little cafe so I do a U turn and head back up the hill only to find that I can’t do a left turn into the car park ☹️ so continue on, miss the next turning and satnav says 11 miles till next one however i manage to swing round in a little layby. Drive into the park and are surprised to a: find it costs $12 to park b: the car park is crammed 🤔. Turns out this is the trail head for the …….. trail. Rather than waste the $12 and needing a bit of a stretch we head out up the trail for a bit until we come to a stream which we aren’t really equipped to ford so we head back having had an hours exercise. However this was not time wasted the woods were showing their autumn colours and the rock formations were incredible. Another absolute stroke of luck to just find this without really looking.

After a really satisfying walk we head the last few miles into Sedona. The landscape is more and more “wild west” with the fantastic outcrops of rock.

Then hotel room was not ready so we headed back into town To grab a bite. Found a very nice Mexican restaurant for some great fajita for me and a fresh mango salad for Chris with a couple of Dos Equis to wash it down.

How about this as a backdrop to your towns high street?

Back to the Hotel and check in. We are running very low on clean clothes so Chris heads to the laundrette while I catch up on the blog. End of Day 74.
